A goal 20 years in the making, Drew Martin overcame crippling lockdown depression, gave up the pressures of city craziness for country peace, and conquered her fears to become a Figure Champion in her first ever competition!
“I only had 4 months to go from a squishy, weak, 180 lb. couch potato riddled with cellulite to a lean, mean, shredded figure competitor. Julie made it so DOABLE, and realistic; and always was honest, straightforward, and patient with me.”
“I finally chose to take action, and change everything that was contributing to my depression. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done, digging myself out of that bottomless pit and making so many major life changes at once – but it helped me realize how strong I could be.”

TELL US MORE ABOUT YOU
Before making my figure competition transformation, I used to be a graphic/game designer living near Seattle. We recently moved to a small town in Idaho. Now I work on my homestead, caring for my horses, cows, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs, countless chickens, and ducks. I love to ride my dirt bike on the trails around my house, snowboard, work out, annoy my Hubbub/best friend for my own amusement, and joke around with my three kiddos.
WHAT THINGS HAPPENED THAT LED YOU TO WORKING WITH ONLINE FITNESS COACH, JULIE LOHRE?
2021 was the beginning of a complete overhaul of my life. Not only did we move our family out of state, buy our dream 10 acres, and go from city dwellers to first-time homesteaders out in the country, but I also decided to quit being AFRAID—afraid of following my dreams, afraid of failing, afraid of falling short, afraid of even trying, and so on. Competing in figure competition has been my dream for 20 years, but I was always too afraid to commit, or even try.
2020 was very difficult for me. After the lockdowns began in Washington, I spent most the year in a DEEP depression. Most days I barely made it out of bed. That experience, as traumatic as it was, made me acutely aware of how short life is. I realized I am responsible for my happiness and that I had a choice to cut out negativity.
I finally chose to take action and change everything that was contributing to my depression. It was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done—digging myself out of that bottomless pit and making so many major life changes at once—but it helped me realize how strong I could be.
That realization led to me taking the next step in my figure competition transformation on June 28th, when I signed up for my first figure show, scheduled for November 6th. When I started looking for a coach, I found out Julie Lohre was doing online training. It was a no-brainer for me since I had been a fan of hers for so long. One of the best decisions I’ve ever made was choosing her as my coach!
I only had four months to go from a squishy, weak, cellulite-riddled 180-pound couch potato to a lean, mean, shredded figure competitor. Julie made it so DOABLE and realistic. She was honest, straightforward, and patient.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR GREATEST FITNESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS
My greatest fitness accomplishment was definitely competing in my first figure competition on Nov 6th. I won first place in True Novice, 3rd in Open C, and 5th in Masters 35. I placed in every class! It was such an insane goal for me to reach because I had spent two decades wishing so badly that I had the guts. It was an electrifying experience. I can’t wait to add more muscle mass and do another show in spring 2022!!
I could not have done this without the support of my family, friends, and especially my amazing husband Michael! He has been my rock through this process, making dinner most nights, and letting me go on hour long treks to the gym while balancing everything else. His support has meant the world to me and I am so very grateful to have such an incredible partner by my side!
DREW’S FIGURE COMPETITION TRANSFORMATION… BY NUMBERS
My progress has honestly blown me away. Sometimes now I will see myself in the mirror and almost not recognize who that woman is. Not just because of my physical differences, but My progress has honestly blown me away. I sometimes don’t recognize the woman in the mirror, not just because of my physical differences but because of how much my outlook on life has changed. At the end of June, I was 180 pounds and had just bought new size 12 clothes. I felt weak, sluggish, uncomfortable, and miserable. Now I weigh 145 and got down to 12 percent body fat. I am strong and fast! I am a size 6 now and I love how streamlined I feel, how powerful I feel, how HEALTHY I feel. I was able to get off of my depression meds. I am the most mentally and physically healthy I have ever been.
WHAT UNIQUE CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED IN YOUR FIGURE COMPETITION TRANSFORMATION JOURNEY?
I have always been interested in fitness and muscular female physiques. I had no idea how to get a body like the women I admired, but while all my friends were idolizing skinny fashion models, I was buying Oxygen Magazine and anything I could find with women who had six-packs on the front cover! I knew I wanted to be ripped and I felt like it was something I was supposed to do.
I was progressing in my fitness goals, but then in 2010 my family suffered a tragic loss. My little brother Wesley died by suicide on March 12, 2010. My world collapsed. Time seemed to stand still, and so did my fitness goals. That longed-for figure competition transformation, and my whole life really, was crippled by severe grief and the darkest despair.
Some months I would do better and make some progress in moving forward and getting back to some kind of normalcy, but then I’d go backwards again. I self-medicated with alcohol more than I am proud to admit. For 10 whole years I struggled immensely with the empty hole his absence left in my heart. The heavy burden of carrying that grief with me all day, every day, was exhausting. I wasn’t sure I would ever be able to come out of it, honestly.
HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT JULIE LOHRE’S ONLINE COMPETITION TRAINING PROGRAM?
I was doing my research on personal trainers and will never forget the first time I saw Julie Lohre. She was on the front of Oxygen Magazine, with those amazing abs, that cute blue workout outfit, and her friendly smile. She lit a fire in me, a fire which may have gone dormant for a while but never went out completely!!
WHEN YOU FIRST CONSIDERED ONLINE TRAINING FOR YOUR FIGURE COMPETITION TRANSFORMATION WHAT WERE YOUR CONCERNS?
My main concern with online figure competition training was the posing requirements for the figure show. I wasn’t sure that I would be able to learn posing via online training. It’s still something I need to work on, but Julie provides great resources and I felt comfortable proceeding.
WHAT WAS THE HARDEST PART OF MAKING YOUR FIGURE COMPETITION TRANSFORMATION?
The hardest part of this experience was continuously choosing to believe in myself no matter what, and to just ignore that part of my brain that would tell me that I wasn’t worth this, or I could never do this, or why even try? Reaching my goal of stepping on stage and being the fittest I have ever been my entire life is something I will NEVER forget. There were also physical challenges along the way. I got very sick midway through my training and ended up in the ER with a lung infection. I also sprained my back at one point, and then got sick again!
There were a lot of speed bumps, but I just kept going like The Terminator!! Never giving up is what made all the difference, not only in my physique but also in my confidence. It doesn’t mean I was perfect—I made plenty of mistakes—but I just kept going regardless. That was the key to my success.
WHAT SUPPLEMENTS DID YOU USE DURING THE PROCESS?
Don’t get me started on Beverly International Supplements! I seriously can’t say enough good things about them and the impact they made in my figure competition transformation. I really think they gave me an incredible edge. I tried a lot of different ones but I think my favorites are Lean Out, UMP Protein Powder, Density, Muscle Synergy, and 7 Keto Musclean!!
Just in the last 25 days before the show, I was able to put on almost 2 lbs of lean muscle while losing 2% body fat at the same time. I could not have done this without all my awesome supplements. I tell all my friends and family about them.
I used all supplements recommended by Julie. She did not push me to use them, nor made me feel I had to. I felt confident of her program and I wanted to follow it to a “T”. I decided to use her recommended supplements which helped immensely on my fit over 50 journey. THEY REALLY DO WORK!

WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST PART ABOUT WORKING WITH JULIE LOHRE?
The best part of working with Julie Lohre for my figure competition transformation is how simple and straightforward she makes things for her clients. I know, however, that behind the scenes, the custom programs she puts together for me are extremely wellthought out and complex. Also, she is very encouraging—but I LOVE that she will be honest and accurate in her critiques. It is always nice to know you are getting genuine feedback from her and not just flattery, which is very important to me.
