TELL US A BIT ABOUT YOU JEN!
Goodness, where do I start with all that I do?! I am a small business owner with my husband of 21 years. We own a successful plumbing company. I also work for my parents as a regional supervisor for our family real estate investment company. But the most important job I do is being mom to my precious children. Ever so slightly below my husband, they are at the top of my priority list. I have two in college and one still in the nest. Family is everything to me.
WHAT THINGS HAPPENED THAT LED YOU TO WORKING WITH JULIE LOHRE?
Although I have always tried to stay in decent shape, I have noticed that as I age, it has become more difficult to stay lean, or as my generation calls it, toned. About ten years ago, I found out I was hypothyroid after my oldest brother, who was in his mid-forties at the time, had sextuplet bypass surgery. The doctor said if he had siblings, they should have bloodwork done as the condition could be hereditary. With obesity, heart disease and cancer running rampant in my family, along with my hypothyroidism, which slows my metabolism down and causes a host of other issues, being mindful of my nutrition and exercise became extremely important to me.
But cardio wasn’t cutting it anymore. And honestly, I didn’t love it that much anyway! I figured out that what I really needed was to build muscle and I was excited to be able to do it the FITBODY way. Muscle was the key to help me feel better, have more energy, strength and keep my body healthy and mobile for years to come. I also had a big trip coming up on a yacht in the Bahamas with our best friends, one of which was Mrs. California International herself (no joke). That was the motivation I needed to really amp up my fitness game. I started following athletes on Instagram, taking an interest in the IFBB pro lifestyle. Then I began to wonder, if I had a coach who had “been there and done that”, perhaps she could show me the ropes. That’s when I found Julie and the FITBODY Way.
WHAT ARE YOUR GREATEST FITNESS ACCOMPLISHMENTS?
After becoming a mother, staying lean and fit had to become intentional. I couldn’t eat whatever I wanted and get away with it like I had before. I did what many moms do, and started to run more often, eventually completing a few half marathons, Tough Mudder, and finally ran my first and only full marathon at Big Sur.
Running was also a great way to help with mental duress while going through some difficult family challenges. My husband is a recovering alcoholic and I am a recovering codependent. Running a marathon takes months of training and preparation and was a great way for me to focus on something positive for my body and mind. It’s truly just as much a mental challenge as a physical challenge. I was able to really get all my emotions out during my runs and felt a sense of relief and renewal each time I finished.
HOW DID YOU FIND OUT ABOUT JULIE LOHRE’S ONLINE PERSONAL TRAINING PROGRAM AND TRAINING THE FITBODY WAY?
I found Julie doing a simple Google search for a bikini fitness coach. She had all the qualities I was looking for and offered a program that seemed doable.
WHAT UNIQUE CHALLENGES HAVE YOU FACED IN YOUR FITBODY JOURNEY?
We all have challenges in life, they just come in different packages. I happened to be really great at codependence and found myself a perfect alcoholic. All joking aside, recovery is a lifelong process and one that I am truly grateful to do on a daily basis. My husband has been sober for 10 years and our marriage is stronger than ever now. We trust God and practice surrendering to Him daily. It’s simple, but not easy. Staying healthy physically and mentally is the same. The work must be done daily. Sometimes the work is to rest. That’s often the hardest one for me.
WHEN YOU FIRST CONSIDERED ONLINE PERSONAL TRAINING WITH FITBODY, WHAT CONCERNS DID YOU HAVE?
I really didn’t know what to expect with online training, but I liked the idea of working though her program on my own schedule. Honestly, I spend a ton of time (probably too much) on my phone or the internet already, so it didn’t seem all that odd to work with a coach this way. Having the phone conversation sealed the deal as I felt assured that Julie would be available to work with me through any challenges I had while going through her program.
TELL US THE SPECIFICS OF YOUR FITBODY WAY TRANSFORMATION
Prior to working with Julie and learning the FITBODY way, I was eating too few calories and doing far too much cardio. Julie helped me reset my metabolism, which helped me lose a few pounds while eating more calories. My body composition has changed quite a bit as well. I have a lot more muscle and feel so much stronger and capable. She holds me accountable by checking in every two weeks, which helps to keep me disciplined.
"I am more confident pretty much everywhere I go, not in an arrogant way, but in a way that actually makes me think of others more and myself less." Jen Grant, 47

WHAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART OF THIS JOURNEY THE FITBODY WAY?
I am terrible at stretching! It’s still one of those super important components I lack the discipline to do. Julie incorporated specific stretches into my program. That definitely helped!
HOW DO YOU FEEL NOW THAT YOU HAVE MADE AN INCREDIBLE FITBODY TRANSFORMATION? HOW HAS YOUR OUTLOOK ABOUT YOUR BODY AND YOUR LIFE CHANGED?
I feel fantastic and want to continue making progress towards increasing muscle definition, strength, and overall fitness. I also love sharing what I have learned with other women. I am more confident pretty much everywhere I go, not in an arrogant way, but in a way that actually makes me think of others more and myself less. I am no longer self-conscious because internally I feel good about myself and how I am caring for my body which frees me to be the best version of myself for others. It’s an awesome feeling.
WHAT SUPPLEMENTS DID YOU USE DURING THE PROCESS?
I used all the recommended Beverly International Supplements Julie suggested; however my favorite was the UMP Protein in chocolate. It gave me the extra protein I needed along with satisfying the sweet tooth I had from time to time. I blended it with hot water and a little cinnamon powder for an afternoon treat.
WHAT IS THE BEST AND WORST PART ABOUT WORKING WITH JULIE LOHRE?
The best part of working with Julie Lohre as my online fitness coach is that she plans everything for you so you don’t have to and she is super encouraging. I believe she really cares about her clients. The worst part is I don’t know if I will ever actually meet her in person! I would really enjoy training with her one day.
ANY OTHER COMMENTS YOU WOULD LIKE TO SHARE?
If you are desiring to level up your fitness journey, give Julie a try. She absolutely knows what she is doing. I needed a program that was spelled out for me and was straightforward. She took the guesswork out of what I would be doing at the gym each day and what I needed to eat. Her meal plan can be adjusted so long as the macros (protein, carbs, and fat) remain the same. And you can eat all the veggies you want! With a little prep work for my meals, and strict adherence to tracking macros, I was easily able to stay on target with the plan. She can help you get that 6-pack and feel like a million bucks whether you are in a bikini on a yacht in the Bahamas next to Mrs. California, or walking into the local grocery store in sweats. You will glow from the inside out wherever you go!
My final encouragement to share is to remember your why. Why do you want to do this in the first place? My “why” was to be healthy for my family. To feel good from the inside out. To have strength, mobility, confidence, ability to keep up with the boys, a clear head, healthy heart and less disease. Be my husband’s dream girl (yes, that’s important!!). I want to inspire others, believe in myself, trust God and be a good steward of what I’ve been given- this body! I want to be a role model for my kids and fight back stigmas about women and aging. I want to remember that it’s my job to make me feel good and create a good life for myself. No one else can do that but me.
