1. UMP Protein is a powdered drink mix made from top quality protein sources.
As a protein supplement to the diet, UMP is intended to be mixed with cold water, milk, or the beverage of your choice and consumed before and after exercise and at any other time of day in order to encourage greater gains in muscle mass, tone, strength, and performance, and reductions in body fat.
2. Can anyone use UMP?
UMP Protein from Beverly International is intended for use by healthy, exercising individuals 18 years of age and older. Trainers, fitness or figure competitors, mixed martial artists, fitness models, women that want to lose weight and other individuals who regularly engage in resistance and/or cardiovascular exercise can benefit from adding UMP to their daily diet.
3. What makes UMP different from other protein powders?
A. “Anabolic Leverage:” UMP’s exceptionally high MPI content (90% by protein weight) -possibly the highest in the world- is intended to generate and sustain high “anabolic leverage”.

This refers to the exertion of high upward leverage, or pressure, on the multiple genetic and non-genetic factors that normally act to suppress muscle protein synthesis. Muscle protein synthesis is required to build muscle tissue. When enough anabolic leverage is generated and sustained, these factors loosen their grip on protein synthesis. In turn, this allows for greater gains in muscle mass, strength, tone and definition. Beverly is not aware of any other company that manufactures a protein powder with such a high content of MPI. MPI has been referred to as the leverage protein for its ability to support high anabolic leverage.

B. 80/20: Owing to its exceptionally high content of MPI, each serving of UMP contains 80% slow-release micellar casein and 20% fast-release whey.

C. Critical Cluster Amino Acids: UMP from Beverly International contains additional critical cluster amino acids, namely, glutamine, arginine and BCAAs (branched-chain amino acids: leucine, isoleucine and valine) to encourage greater muscle anabolism and vasodilation, among other benefits.

D. Clinical Dose: Clinical studies have demonstrated increases in total body mass, fat-free (includes muscle) mass, strength and myofibrillar protein when subjects consumed 20 grams of protein before and again after training (i.e. 40 grams total). These studies used proteins containing far less MPI than Beverly’s UMP. UMP contains 20 grams of protein per serving, 90% (18 g) of which is high leverage MPI.

G. Perfect Consistency: By law, one scoop is supposed to be the amount that mixes properly in a cup of water. If UMP consisted of 100% MPI, one scoop of it wouldn’t mix properly. In accordance with the law, and to make customers happy, Beverly added just enough whey protein isolate (5%, depending on the flavor) to produce a more desirable consistency. Consistent with Beverly’s code of supplement manufacturing ethics, they used the best quality whey protein isolate available (high %, low in lactose).

4. When can I expect to see results while using UMP Protein?

a. Weight loss, fat loss: The most important determinant of body weight and body fat mass (the total amount of fat on your body) is energy intake. Energy is frequently measured in units known as calories. By enjoying a protein shake made with UMP in place of a higher calorie meal one or two times each day, it is possible to experience a reduction in body weight and/or body fat in as little as one to three days.

b. Muscle mass, tone and strength gains: A recent scientific study by Willoughby et al. (2008) demonstrated that subjects consuming 20 g of protein one hour before and again one hour after resistance exercise (i.e. 40 g of protein total) experienced greater increases in fat-free (includes muscle) mass, strength and myofibrillar protein over a period of 10 weeks than did subjects consuming a carbohydrate-based placebo. The protein powder used in this study contained only 10% MPI per unit weight of protein (i.e. 1 g MPI per 10 g protein). In contrast, each serving of UMP provides 20 grams of protein, 90% of which is MPI. Thus, it is possible to experience results that meet or exceed those reported in the Willoughby study over the same period of time. Note that on rest (non-exercise) days the subjects in this study consumed 40 g of protein in the morning upon awakening.

5. If I don’t perform resistance exercise, can I still benefit from using Beverly International UMP Protein?

UMP is intended for use by exercising individuals, whether or not they are performing resistance exercise. Because resistance exercise is more efficient at stimulating muscle protein synthesis, you can expect greater gains in muscle mass, strength, tone and definition when using it while performing this type of exercise. That being said, UMP can provide you with essential nutritional benefits whether or not you are performing resistance exercise or any other form of exercise. Indeed, protein is a necessary component of the diet regardless of the amount of exercise you perform.

As indicated above, UMP Protein from Beverly International contains 80% slow-release micellar casein and 20% fast-release whey. Research by Biolo et al. (2008) suggests that whey protein may be particularly useful for preserving muscle mass during periods of rest, such as a layoff from training or prolonged bed rest.

Yes. A high-protein diet can help reduce water retention. In addition, UMP contains arginine, dietary supplementation with which has been shown to increase nitrogen retention and reduce water retention, possibly via mechanisms involving NO and sodium balance (Beaumier et al., 1995).

Retention of sodium and water is arguably the most difficult problem facing a bikini or figure competitor as she prepares for competition. Water retention can lead to a loss of muscle definition and even produce muscle atrophy. In addition, because UMP Protein contains gluconeogenic acids (e.g. glutamine), it supports gluconeogenesis. This process is fueled by the burning of fat. Thus, gluconeogenesis and the burning of fat go hand in hand.

10. Can I combine UMP with other Beverly products?

Yes. The UMP formula was designed to be complementary to every other Beverly product. For instance, some consumers may want to supplement their diet with creatine or use stimulants. If your strength increases, you can burn more calories per unit of time spent at the gym. And if your muscle mass increases, you will appear leaner, even if your body fat mass remains constant. 12. Can I prepare UMP and store it in the fridge for later?

Yes. It has been estimated that UMP will retain its full potency for up to 6 hours when mixed with cold water or milk and refrigerated immediately.

Don’t hesitate to put a protein shake made with UMP in the freezer overnight. The next day you can take it with you to the office, school, or wherever you like. Your shake will remain nice and cold for 3-4 hours as it unthaws.
