Winning At My Very First Figure Competition

First Figure Competition

When Emily first contacted me, she was a college sophomore that had been active and played basketball most of her life. As an exercise science major, Emily knew the importance of taking care of her body through healthy, balanced eating and consistent exercise. Her goals were straightforward. Emily wanted to take the base she had built and see what was possible with hard work, discipline, and consistency.

Over the next 20 weeks, Emily and I worked together in my online contest prep program. During that time, we focused on adding lean muscle to her frame while decreasing overall body fat. With an eye always on her long-term health and metabolism, I balanced Emily’s nutrition appropriately, keeping her calories between 2,000 – 2,400 per day for 90% of her first figure competition prep with a focus on getting at least 30% of her daily calories from protein. With strength training, she worked out between 4-5 times per week for 45-60 mins per session, and while exercise changed frequently, we focused on exercises building in the right places to give her that beautiful figure V taper along with lean and shapely legs and glutes.

Emily’s hard work definitely paid off as she placed 1st in the OCB Novice Figure category and 2nd in the OPEN! Over the course of our time together, she made some serious changes! From January to May, 20 weeks, she lost 18 pounds on the scale, but I estimate that she added 5 pounds of lean muscle which means she really lost 23+ pounds of body fat. Her inches really moved, too, with a 2.5 inch drop at her waist, >3 inches off her hips, and 3 inches off each thigh!

The best part was how much stronger, faster, and more fit she got during that time! For many women, contest prep is a time when they lose muscle and get weaker… not Emily! She improved her pushup strength by more than 50% and shaved 45 seconds off her already fast run time.

Preparing for your first figure competition can be a positive and healthy experience… if you do it right. Congratulations Emily! I know many incredible things are possible for you from here!

WHAT THINGS HAPPENED THAT LED YOU TO WORK WITH JULIE LOHRE AS YOUR FIGURE COMPETITION COACH FOR YOUR FIRST SHOW?

I first found Julie while researching bodybuilding and figure coaches on Google, and after looking into her work with other clients and how she approaches coaching, I knew it would be a great fit for me. I was so ready and determined to start the prep process. Working with Julie only made it that much easier and more fun.

Winning At My Very First Figure Competition

I recently just competed in my first bodybuilding show in the OCB Jersey Natural Open and got 1st place in Novice and 2nd in Open. I did a 20-week prep with Julie, and although I had my ups and down along the way, I already can’t wait to do it again!

A motivational quote that I had as my wallpaper all prep was:
“How bad do you want it?”

My answer was simple. I wanted it!
