As women move into their 40s, their metabolism naturally changes — but not because their bodies are “broken.” Hormonal shifts, particularly the decline in estrogen, affect how efficiently the body burns fuel and stores fat. At the same time, lean muscle mass gradually decreases unless it’s actively maintained through resistance training and adequate protein intake. Since muscle is the most metabolically active tissue, even small losses can cause the body to burn fewer calories at rest, making it easier to gain fat and harder to lose it.
These changes don’t mean weight loss is impossible — they simply mean the old strategies that worked in your 20s or 30s may not work now.
