Jennifer Harer, an avid marathon runner turned to weight lifting to shape and define her body. This amazing FITBODY mom and teacher, gained confidence and both the physical and mental strength to accomplish her dreams setting an incredible example for her boys and her students!
I have been married for 15 years and have 2 boys, Conner and Brandt. I am a teacher and having been teaching for 16 years. I have a love of watching my boys wrestle, teaching my students, working out, and reading. In addition, I was an avid runner. I ran my first two half marathons in 2017 until I fell in love with lifting. Then my focus switched to more lifting and less cardio.
What are your greatest fitness accomplishments so far?
My greatest accomplishment so far has been the overall fitness journey in itself. Stepping into a gym was very intimidating to me at first. I feared looking silly and not doing things correctly. Now, I look for workouts to challenge me and I embrace them.
” Stepping into a gym was very intimidating to me at first. I feared looking silly and not doing things correctly. Now, I look for workouts to challenge me and I embrace them!”
My transformation has been both mental and physical. I am physically stronger and a more well-rounded athlete. I physically push myself to exhaustion, giving 100% every time I’m training.
Mentally, I have gained much more confidence which has carried over to my overall life in general. I don’t give up when the going gets tough, I just keep telling myself that I can do it. Julie’s Online Personal Training has helped me through this process!
What role does fitness play in your life?
Fitness is an active role in my life and my overall families’ lives. We are a very athletic and competitive family and sports and being active have always been a priority.
What motivates you to lead a healthy lifestyle?
I feel that the physical and mental changes that I have experienced have really pushed me to continue this healthy lifestyle.
I stay motivated because I feel so much healthier working out on a daily basis. When I take a day off from the gym, I feel sluggish. I always remember that feeling and that I don’t like it. That motivates me to get in gear and get to the each almost every day.
What unique challenges have you faced in reaching your fitness goals?
I feel that nutrition has been somewhat of a challenge for me. Realizing that no matter how hard I work in the gym, that if I am not fueling my body properly, I won’t see the results I want.
Another challenge for me has been to be patient. Being patient isn’t my strongest suit and results don’t appear over a few days or maybe even weeks. It may take months and years to see the results you are looking for.
Last, I feel that time has been a struggle. Time to work, parent, train, cook, prep, get good amounts of sleep etc. This is very hard to do as a full time working mother and wife.
What are your fitness goals?
My fitness goals are to continue to try to maintain a healthy, active lifestyle. In addition, I will be competing in my first NPC Bikini Competition in May.

How do you balance nutrition and clean eating? Favorite clean eating foods or recipes?
I balance nutrition by trying to have a balanced share of protein, fats, and carbs at each meal or snack if possible. However, I do reward myself with treats but I till count them in my macros. I don’t believe in denying yourself anything, it is all about choices and if I choose to have a sweet treat, then I know I have to make other choice later in the day to stay in my macros. In addition, I keep my meals simple so they are easily tracked and I food prep every few days.
What does a typical workout look like for you?
There’s always a warmup and stretch at the beginning. The workouts vary depending on if I’m training a specific body part or more than one that day. It really depends on what Julie Lohre has me doing!! In addition, I add some cardio at the beginning or end.
